비교 표현 심화

the 비교급, 원급 관용 표현, 배수 표현으로 정확한 비교를 만듭니다.

비교 표현은 형태만 정확히 알면 빠르게 풀립니다. 원급, 비교급, 최상급의 틀과 강조·배수 표현을 함께 익혀 두세요.

원급 비교 — as ~ as

두 대상이 같은 정도임을 나타냅니다. 부정문에서는 not as ~ as로 덜함을 나타냅니다.

형식뜻예문
as + 원급 + as~만큼 ~한The new printer is as fast as the old one.
not as + 원급 + as~만큼 ~하지 않은The first draft was not as clear as the second.
as + many / much + as~만큼 많은We received as many orders as last year.

💡 as 와 as 사이에는 형용사나 부사의 원급이 옵니다. 비교급은 올 수 없습니다.

비교급 — than

두 대상을 비교할 때는 비교급 뒤에 than을 씁니다. 비교 대상이 반복되면 that of, those of로 대신합니다.

This model is cheaper than the previous one.
이 모델은 이전 모델보다 저렴합니다.
Our response time is shorter than that of our competitors.
우리 응답 시간은 경쟁사보다 짧습니다.

💡 비교 대상이 명사일 때는 that of(단수), those of(복수)로 받습니다.

최상급과 one of the 최상급

셋 이상 중 가장 좋은 것은 the + 최상급으로 나타냅니다. one of the + 최상급 + 복수 명사 구조도 자주 나옵니다.

one of the + 최상급 + 복수가장 ~한 것 중 하나one of the most efficient systems on the market

💡 one of the 뒤에는 반드시 복수 명사가 옵니다. the busiest routes 처럼 씁니다.

the 비교급, the 비교급

앞의 비교급이 조건, 뒤의 비교급이 결과가 되어 점점 더해지는 변화를 나타냅니다. 두 절 모두 the를 씁니다.

The more we practice, the more confident we become.
연습할수록 더 자신감이 생깁니다.
The sooner you confirm, the earlier we can ship.
더 빨리 확인할수록 더 일찍 발송할 수 있습니다.
The higher the volume, the lower the unit cost.
물량이 많을수록 단가가 낮아집니다.

💡 앞뒤 모두 주어와 동사를 갖춘 절 형태여야 합니다.

배수 표현

몇 배인지는 twice, three times 뒤에 as ~ as를 붙여 나타냅니다. 비교급과 함께 쓰면 than을 씁니다.

twice as + 형용사 + asThe warehouse is twice as large as the old one.
배수 + 비교급 + thanThis route is three times longer than the highway.

💡 셀 수 있는 명사에는 twice as many 를, 셀 수 없는 명사에는 twice as much 를 씁니다.

비교급 강조와 관용 표현

much, far, even, a lot은 비교급을 강조하고, 원급·비교급에는 굳어진 관용 표현이 많습니다.

💡 the more ~ the more 구문은 앞뒤 모두 비교급이 와야 합니다.

⚠️ 자주 틀리는 포인트

  • The more practice, the more confident. 처럼 절 형태를 빠뜨리는 실수 — 주어와 동사를 갖춘 절이 필요합니다.
  • one of the most efficient system 처럼 최상급 뒤 명사를 단수로 쓰는 실수 — 복수형 systems 가 맞습니다.
  • 비교 대상에 that of 를 빠뜨리는 실수 — our time is shorter than our competitors 가 아니라 than that of our competitors 입니다.
  • very 로 비교급을 강조하는 실수 — much faster, far faster 를 씁니다.
  • as ~ as 사이에 비교급을 쓰는 실수 — as faster as 가 아니라 as fast as 입니다.
